Plane Crash In Zimbabwe Kills All Occupants


A small aircraft chartered by Mozambican ports company Cornelder has crashed near the Mozambique-Zimbabwe border, killing all six occupants.

It is believed that six people among them four Green Motors Services (GMS) directors died in a plane crash at Vumba Mountain this morning.

According to Zitamar, Cornelder Mozambique, the company using the plane, is a private joint venture between Moçambique Ports and Railways (CFM) and Cornelder Holdings based in
Rotterdam, Holland. The company's chairman, Adelino Mesquita, was named among the victims of today's crash.

It is believed that the four directors were on their way from Beira to attend a board meeting in Mutare.

Investigations to establish the cause of the accident are underway but preliminary investigations attribute the crash to bad weather.

The wreckage of the eight seater plane and body parts of the victims were strewn all over the place near the mountain peak. How sad.

Legendary Newspaper Columnist, Jimmy Breslin dies at 88


Jimmy Breslin, the Pulitzer Prize-winning chronicler of wise guys and underdogs who became the brash embodiment of the old-time is dead.

His stepdaughter, Emily Eldridge, said he died on Sunday, March 19, 2017 at the age of 88 at his Manhattan home of complications from pneumonia. He captured the 1986 Pulitzer for commentary and the George Polk Award for metropolitan reporting. More than 20 years earlier, with Gay Talese and Tom Wolfe, Breslin had helped create "New Journalism" a more literary approach to news reporting.

Video: Nyeri prepares to bury governor Gachagua

The Late Nyeri County governor Nderitu Gachagua will be buried today, March o6, at his Hiriga Village home in Nyeri County.


The cortege left Lee Funeral Home at 8:00 am for the funeral.


Top dignitaries in the country, led by President Uhuru Kenyatta, his Deputy William Ruto as well as governors, senators, MPs and leaders are expected to attend the funeral.


The funeral programme is set to kick off at 10:00 AM.

Gachagua died on February 24 at a London hospital where he was being treated for pancreas cancer – a illness he had fought with for more than 3 years.

His body arrived in the country on Thursday, February 24, to an emotional reception at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.


Gachagua Life and Times
  1. The 64-year-old late Nyeri County Governor was born on July 29, 1953.
  2. Gachagua started his career as a quantity surveyor in the Ministry of Public works in 1977 after graduating from the University of Nairobi with a Bachelors degree in Building Economics in 1976.
  3. He also served as a Provincial Quantity Surveyor for the Ministry of Public Works between 1982 to 1983 before moving to the National Housing Corporation as the company’s chief quantity surveyor.
  4. In 1987, Gachagua started his own quantity surveyor company, which he has been managing until his death.
  5. The late Gachagua made his political debut in 2003 when he successfully contested the Mathira Constituency seat.
  6. He served in the National Assembly to 10 years until 2013.
  7. He was elected as the first Governor for Nyeri County with the inception of the devolved system of government during the 2013 General Election.
  8. Governor Gachagua was a respected politician in Mount Kenya region and in the entire country.
  9. On November 2016, President Uhuru Kenyatta named the late Nderitu Gachagua in a list of political big wigs to spearhead his re-election campaigns in the country.
  10. Gachagua served as the Chairman of the Council of Governors (CoG) Committee on Agriculture.
  11. He championed for better coffee prices and viciously confronted the coffee theft menace in Central Kenya.
  12. His leadership was anchored on inclusivity and agricultural development to spur growth.
  13. Gachagua succumbed to pancreatic cancer at Royal Marsden Hospital in London, United Kingdom, where he had sought treatment.

Hollywood actor Bill Paxton dies at 61


Bill Paxton, whose extensive career included films such as "The Terminator," "Aliens" and "Titanic," passed away due to complications from surgery. A representative for his family in a statement said:


"It is with heavy hearts we share the news that Bill Paxton has died. A loving husband and father, Bill began his career in Hollywood working on films in the art department and went on to have an illustrious career spanning four decades as a beloved and prolific actor and filmmaker. Bill's passion for the arts was felt by all who knew him, and his warmth and tireless energy were undeniable. We ask to please respect the family's wish for privacy as they mourn the loss of their adored husband and father."


Moments after news of Paxton's death broke, social media lit up with tributes to the versatile actor.

JUST IN: Nyeri governor Nderitu Gachagua is dead


Nyeri governor Nderitu Gachagua has passed on at a london hospital aged 64. He has been battling cancer for long. He previously served as Mathira member of parliament.


Mr Gachagua died while undergoing treatment at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London, the United Kingdom.

The Governor, born on July 29, 1953, had traveled to London for treatment where he succumbed.

Gachagua was Nyeri’s first Governor and was elected in 2013 on a GNU party ticket alongside deputy governor, Wamathai Samwel Githaiga.

Nderitu Gachagua holds a degree in Building economics from the University of Nairobi.

Prior to being elected the Governor of Nyeri, Mr Gachagua served as the Member of Parliament of Mathira Constituency.

During his tenure as Governor, he put in place an elaborate policy and legislative framework in the county to guide key stakeholders from various sectors including education, trade, transport, tourism, hospitality and civil society organizations and ensure they are included in making key decisions.

During his tenure as the Governor, he faced two impeachment motions with last year’s being moved by Kiganjo Ward Member of the County Assembly Baragua Mutahi and seconded by Karatina Ward MCA, Joel Gichuru.

32 of the 46 MCAs supported the motion. This impeachment motion saw the MCAs camp overnight in the chambers as they awaited debate on the motion.

The MCAs accused Gachagua of misappropriation of public funds and abuse of office following recent revelations by the controller of budget that over Ksh 800 million.

The MCAs also accused the Governor of dictatorial leadership claiming that he has refused to be questioned over his alleged financial improprieties.

MCAs were also aggrieved by the Governor’s refusal to assent to the county’s 2016/2017 Finance Bill that would see them get a multi-million fitness club.

The impeachment, however, failed after the Senate failed to ratify the motion by the MCAs.

He was married to Margaret Karungaru Nderitu.

Mary Lee South, mother of Hollywood star Tom Cruise is dead aged 80


Mary Lee South, the mother of Hollywood star, actor, Tom Cruise, has died. Mrs South who has battled with health issues in recent years died peacefully in her sleep last week at the age of 80. She was given a memorial service at her local Church of Scientology this past weekend with Tom Cruise and his sisters Lee Ann DeVette, 57, Cass Mapother, 55, and Marian Henry, 52, all in attendance.
