While we do take care of our skin, we
sometimes forget that our lips need a little extra TLC. The skin on our
lips is a little more sensitive than the rest of our face. Here are a
few ways where you can protect and enhance your lips’ natural flush.
#1
Step away from the stainers!
Dark liquids have a tendency of leaving back
stains, and while they might not look like it, they are definitely one
of the reasons for the discolouration of our lips. Stay away from
coffee, tea, wine and other darker liquids. If you can’t avoid drinking
them, save your lips from them; drink the liquid through a straw.
#2
Exfoliate
Sometimes lips appear darker
because the dead skin cells have still created a layer on your skin. Buy
a lip scrub or make one at home with olive oil or honey and granulated
sugar. Scrub your lips lightly and then wipe it off. Do not forget to
follow through with a hydrating lip balm.
#3
Stay hydrated
The skin on the lips is the
first to be visually affected by dehydration in your body. So make sure
you haveleast 3 litres of water a day to keep the toxins at bay and to
make your skin and lips supple and fresh.
#4
Remove lipstick properly
Ensure along with your makeup
you remove all traces of your lipstick before you go to sleep. Sometimes
the residue is what causes the discolouration. So use that extra makeup
wipe and clean it up thoroughly.
#5
SPF
Just like sunscreen is for the skin and sunglasses for the eyes, your
lips need to be protected from the sun as well. Make sure you slather
your lips with a heavy SPF lip balm. If you are planning on applying
lipstick, apply the lip balm while you do the rest of your face so it
gets soaked in and then dab the residue off.
