Machakos governor fails to substantiate claims former VP Kalonzo grabbed Mavoko land

Dr Alfred Mutua, had a tough time proving massive land grabbing claims he made against the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy ( CORD ) co -principals Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula.

The Senate Public Accounts and Investments Committee (PAIC) declined to admit documents he had submitted , until they were formally signed and authenticated . Mutua’s insistence on the land grabbing allegations without evidence were termed sideshows.

Mutua had tabled a series of documents before the House Committee linking Kalonzo and Wetangula , as well as Mavoko Member of Parliament , Patrick Makau , to grabbing of thousands of acres of public land in the former Mavoko Municipality , but he could neither substantiate nor specify the parcels of land he claimed the trio had grabbed , as outlined in a letter written by a law firm ; Ndegwa and Ndegwa Associates that he tabled on Wednesday, November 30.

West Pokot Senator , John Lonyangapuo , questioned the authenticity of the letters saying that Mutua needs to justify that Kalonzo grabbed the said parcels of land.

“ We cannot allow you to use the committee to get what you did not get elsewhere ,” Kakamega Senator , Dr Bonny Khalwale told Mutua.

However , Mutua accused the Senate Committee of trying to cover up the land grabbing allegations he had raised.

“ Attempts to say this document is inadmissible amounts to cover up . Rejecting the document means there is a law for small fish and big fish ,” argued Mutua.

Mutua had in the document claimed that Kalonzo , then as Vice President , had grabbed more than 8 ,000 acres of public land in Mavoko Municipality through Desiral Limited , a company he co -owns with his wife , Pauline Musyoka.

He was , however , forced to withdraw the document since it was unsigned , and re -submit it as an annexure , accompanied by a signed letter, with some committee members accusing him of name dropping to divert attention from serious financial malpractices flagged by Auditor General , Edward Ouko , in his 2014 / 15 report.

“ A grabber is a grabber , a thief is a thief ,” insisted Mutua .
Senator Lonyangapuo called on Mutua to “ stop the sideshows” saying that land issues are not like a game of Tom and Jerry.

Mutua has a series of audit queries to respond to, ranging from procurement of materials for the construction of his office and the street lighting project .

He also withdrew and apologized following claims that Machakos Senator , Johnstone Muthama, was a conduit in delivering a Ksh 350 million bribe to Kalonzo to join CORD .
