A major operation has been launched in search of over 100 mental patients who have escaped since there was no one to look after them as doctors and nurses are on strike.
The strike which was announced on Sunday night, December 4 kicked off with it’s effects already being felt.
Motorists and road users were forced to wait in traffic after the patients escaped from Mathare Hospital located along Thika road.
Health Cabinet Secretary Cleopa Mailu said the strike notice was premature since the court had given the doctor’s and nurses 90 days a court had given medics to negotiate with the government.
Mailu pleaded with the health workers to report to work as they are willing to negotiate to prevent a crisis and loss of lives.
