Kibingei Ward MCA Justus Kibaba and Jubilee Party parliamentary aspirant Didmus Barasa went for each other’s throats in broad daylight. The leaders, both from Kimilili sub-county, treated locals to free drama over issues related to women’s groups.
They had turned up for Jamhuri day celebrations at amtala stadium. The fight was provoked when Kibaba told Barasa off for choosing Jubilee Party over Ford Kenya.
“Didmus, you are wasting your money in Jubilee. Come join us in Ford Kenya and fight for space during the nominations. Jubilee has no chances in Kimilili constituency,” Kibaba said.
Infuriated by the dressing down, Barasa accused Didmus of misappropriating donations he had set aside for women’s groups.
“I gave you the chance to be in charge of distributing over 12 posho mills that were meant for poor rural women as a way of empowering them economically in July this year but you selected your women friends to benefit from the machines. You are a disgrace to society,” Barasa told Kibaba.
Barasa further claimed that Kibaba had squandered Sh3 million he had given him to buy incubators for women’s groups in Kimilili constituency. He said the ward rep blew the cash during one of his foreign trips and never worked on any projects.
Unable to withstand the politician’s barbs, the angered MCA charged forward and grabbed the microphone from Barasa, engaging him in a physical fight.
“You can’t tell lies as I sit, you should learn to tell the truth,” said Kibaba as they confronted each other.
During the incident that saw both politicians lose part of their shirts, residents and officers from the county, and the national government watched in disbelief.
It took the intervention of security personnel at the stadium to separate the two as Kimilili MP Suleiman Murunga and Deputy County Commissioner Reuben Loyotoman urged residents to allow the event to proceed.
The area lawmaker, who was in charge of welcoming aspirants to address residents, would not allow any other politician to give his speech as he called on them to respect public holidays.
