US and UK targeted: President Uhuru Kenyatta warns foreign powers against interfering with 2017 general elections

President Uhuru Kenyatta has warned foreign countries intent on influencing the outcome of next year’s General Election that their actions are not welcome.

Speaking during this year’s Jamhuri Day celebrations, the president said that Kenyans should be let to decide their destiny.

“There is already money coming in from abroad in the guise of promoting civic education. We don’t want to be told by other countries that they’re teaching civic education – Kenyans know how to vote,” he said.

He noted that if the foreign powers want to help, the could support the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) instead of “going round doing shady things.”

“Our choice as Kenyans will not be dictated by rhetoric, or foreign powers but by the sovereign will of the people of Kenya,” said the president.

At the same time, President Kenyatta warned politicians against dividing Kenyans for political mileage, adding that they should instead promote their manifestos to the electorate.

“Politicians let us seek votes by promoting our manifestos knowing that Kenyans are learned and can choose who they want. We have no right to make Kenyans fight,” he said.

This is the 53 year since the country attained her independence and ability to rule herself.

In his speech, president Kenyatta outlined the successes of his government during the years and power, juxtaposing them to the ideals strived for by our founding fathers.
