Mother abandons toddler by roadside - the reason is disgusting

A woman who abandoned here newborn son in near-freezing temperatures in a roadside hedge later turned to police for help to recover the infant, the Qilu Evening News reports.

The woman, a 20-year-old university student, wrapped the child in several blankets and left him in the hedge in Jinan, Shandong province, China before dawn, according to witnesses.

The child’s body was cold and he was unable to cry when he was found by a woman on her way to work.

He was sent to hospital and identified by doctors as one born a week earlier at the medical centre.

The doctors said the boy’s mother was a university student and his father, the student’s boyfriend, did not show up at the hospital during the birth, the report said.

When the hospital reported to the child to police, officers said the child’s mother was already at a police station.
She had regretted abandoning the child and went back to the roadside for him but he was no longer there, so she turned to police for help.

The woman’s parents said they would support their daughter’s decision to raise the child, the report said.
