A Mexican governor and her senator husband died in a helicopter crash in the centre of the country on Monday.

“I said hello to (Moreno) in the Senate just a few days ago. Those of us who had the opportunity to know them are sad and troubled,” Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard said on Twitter, confirming the deaths of the couple.

President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said on Twitter that his government would investigate the accident. It was unclear if the pilot died or what had caused the crash.

Alonso, from the centre-right National Action Party (PAN), took office earlier this month after a local election that was hotly contested with Lopez Obrador’s leftist National Regeneration Movement, or MORENA. An electoral tribunal had to validate the results months after the vote amid accusations of fraud.

Moreno was governor of Puebla between 2011 and 2017 and headed the PAN in the Senate. A number of Mexican politicians have died in aircraft accidents in the past few years, including federal interior ministers in 2008 and 2011. The latter two were also members of the PAN.

SHOCKING:Analysis shows over half of candidates scored D and below in KCSE 2018

Picture: Prof Magoha during release of 2018 KCSE results

More than half the candidates who sat this year’s Form Four examination failed to get a grade that can allow pursue a professional course.
This is despite the government spending close to Sh20 billion on the students in the last four years.
An analysis of the results shows that 343,897 candidates scored grade D and below.
It means they cannot apply for professional courses or even be employed as police officers since the entry grade to the service is D+.
An analysis of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education results, which were released on Friday, indicates that 147,918 students attained grade D, some 165,139 had D- while 30,840 candidates scored E.
The 40,707 students who scored C and 71,047 who had C- will be able to join technical and vocational training institutes and teachers training colleges.

UNIVERSITY ENTRY GRADE
This year, the number of candidates who scored the minimum university entry mean grade of C+ and above is 90,377 or 13.77 per cent of the total number of those who sat the tests.
In 2017, the number was 70,073 or just 11.38 per cent of the candidates.
The total number of students who sat the examination this year was 660,204, with 338,628 being male while 321,576 were female, representing 51.29 per cent and 48.71 per cent respectively.
It means only one in seven KCSE examination candidates achieved the university entry grade.
The number translates to 15 per cent of the 2018 KCSE test candidates.
Last year, education experts, teachers unions and other stakeholders raised concerns following the mass failure and called for investigations.
In the 2017 KCSE examination, some 314,035 candidates scored grade D and below.
The Kenya National Union of Teachers and the Kenya Post Primary Education Teachers Union complained that the number could not proceed to university and college or even secure gainful employment.
REDUCED SUBSTANTIALLY
The group is now joined another 295,463 boys and girls.
Mass mass failure in the last three years has also raised questions on the government’s hyped plan to achieve a 100 per cent transition from primary to secondary schooling.
Yesterday, education experts said the huge number of young men and women failing examinations is a ticking time bomb.
According to a Kuppet report released early this month, KCSE examination performance for 2016 and last year was peculiar. .
“Poor performance in national examinations is a precursor for crime, unhealthy behaviour and has a bearing on emotional balance, democracy and social cohesion,” the report said.
The teachers’ union added that the mass failure may have led to the loss of more than Sh56 billion and substantially reduced the capital base for public and private universities in the country.
Kuppet added that curriculum implementation has been affected by the clamour for the mean score, making skills development subsidiary.
CREATIVITY AND INNOVATION
The report further noted that 70 per cent of students in secondary schools rarely search for new knowledge from books in libraries to enhance their creativity and innovation.
“The learners instead concentrate on revision materials,” the report added.
While releasing the results, Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed said candidates failed in many papers in the past because they did not have adequate depth of content and could not apply the syllabus critically when answering questions.
She said in 2017, most candidates’ answers to questions requiring elaborate responses were not tackled adequately.
“However, based on this year’s results, these gaps appear to have been addressed,” the minister said.
Moi University lecturer Okumu Bigambo on Saturday said the mass failure is an matter that must be addressed quickly.
“There is a lot of gambling in our education. Exams are being manned by police officers. Anyone sitting for a national test should be in a relaxed environment. The atmosphere was not good,” Prof Bigambo told the Nation.

Amal & George Clooney donate $100,000 to Foundation helping Immigrant Children separated from Families

US President Donald Trump ‘s “zero tolerance” immigration policy has been making news headlines for separating toddlers from their parents and putting them in detention camps.

The policy has seen wide-spread criticism, with several celebrities and public figures, including the first lady Melania Trump, singer John Legend and wife, Chrissy Teigen pushing for its removal.

Amal and George Clooney have added their voices to the cause, releasing a statement to People and donating $100,000 through their foundation to a group protecting the immigrant children.
The statement reads in part:

 At some point in the future our children will ask us: ‘Is it true, did our country really take babies from their parents and put them in detention centers?’ And when we answer yes, they’ll ask us what we did about it. What we said. Where we stood.
We can’t change this administration’s policy but we can help defend the victims of it.

The couple donated to the Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights which is trying to help the separated families.

Why i drank my dog's urine

Woman who went viral after she was filmed drinking her dog's urine explains why she does it, but experts warn against it.

A video of a woman drinking her dog's urine went viral a week ago and people were disgusted by it.

In the video, the woman said, "Many of you have asked me how I always look so good, how my makeup always looks so perfect, or how I always have this natural glow..."

She then proceeds to collect urine from her dog with a plastic cup before drinking it all.

After drinking the entire cup of urine, she then says: "Until I first drank my dog’s pee, I was depressed, I was sad, and I had bad acne."

She adds: "Dog pee also has vitamin A in it, vitamin E in it, and it has 10 grams of calcium, and it’s also proven to help cure cancer."

Drinking dog or human urine is known as urine therapy, and it was a practiced form of therapy in ancient China, Rome, Greece and Egypt. But experts warn about the impact the substance can have on the health because of the toxins and acids that can reside in the urine.

"Urine is mostly made up of water, lots of urea, creatinine, various electrolytes, uric acid, trace proteins, and low levels of antibodies and enzymes," Joy McCarthy, a certified holistic nutritionist, told Allure.
She says that drinking urine from an animal could be an unsafe route for the body because of what the liquid might contain.

"Herbicides have been detected in dog’s urine, likely from herbicide-treated lawns, antibiotics, and hormones, so I really don’t know that it’s the safest choice," Joy says.

US Africa command launches airstrikes againt ISIS militants in Somalia

The United States command in African issued a statement today saying it conducted two separate airstrikes targeting ISIS militants in northeastern Somalia for the first time.
While the results of the strikes are still being assessed, Africa Command said "several" terrorists were killed with the strikes carried out by an unmanned drone.
Samantha Reho, a spokesperson for Africa Command said "US forces will continue to use all authorized and appropriate measures to protect Americans and to disable terrorist threats,"
That includes partnering with the African Union Mission in Somalia and Somali National Security Forces, "targeting terrorists, their training camps and safe havens throughout Somalia, the region and around the world."
The strikes mark the first time the US has targeted ISIS in a country in the Horn of Africa that has been beset by violence and a barely functioning central government for years. It also comes the same day President Donald Trump told reporters the US military would dramatically ramp up military operations against the terrorist group following an attack in New York earlier this week by a man claiming allegiance to ISIS.

Prince William praises extraordinary firefighters and survivors of Grenfell blaze

Prince William praised the Grenfell Tower firefighters at the Mirror’s Pride of Britain awards.

Attending for the first time, he also paid tribute to the survivors: “It’s truly inspiring how you all rallied to help.”

The prince honoured firefighters and community members who showed true bravery over the horror of the Grenfell Tower blaze.

He presented the This Morning Emergency Services Award to crews who risked their lives to enter the inferno that engulfed the 24-storey tower block earlier this year.

It is a cause close to his heart after he served as an RAF search and rescue pilot from 2010 until 2013 and an air ambulance pilot from 2015 to 2017.
William urged people to take a moment to remember the work emergency services do.

And he told the firefighters: “Many people forget the daily grind you go through on a daily basis.”

He also presented a Special Recognition Award to volunteers, community members and people from the Grenfell United residents group.

In an emotional speech, Prince William commended their “hard work and community spirit”, adding: “I’m just so sorry that such an awful event ever occurred.

“It’s truly inspiring how you rallied round and helped each other.
“I can only imagine how horrendously difficult it’s been for you all. Everyone needs to know what community spirit in truly, truly devastating times is really about.”

Having recently returned to the site of the tragedy, the royal told the community: “You’ve been a true example of humanity for what you have done. I could not be prouder of the community.”

On June 14 the blaze raged through the tower in North Kensington, West London. Some 250 firefighters and 70 fire engines were involved in the 60-hour battle to control the blaze, as well as 20 ambulances.

At least 80 people died, though the true number of victims will not be known until at least next year.

Two days after the fire, William joined his grandmother the Queen on a visit to the Westway Sports Centre, where survivors had taken shelter.

He caught the nation’s heart when he was pictured hugging Fatima Jafari, 78, whose husband Ali Yawar Jafari, 82, was killed in the fire.

In September, William and his brother Prince Harry then visited the Support4Grenfell community hub near the charred tower, where they met with survivors, volunteers and charity workers as well as local school children who were affected by the blaze.

And they recently visited the Al-Manaar Muslim Cultural Heritage Centre in Westbourne Park, one of the organisations overseeing the first relief effort for Grenfell survivors.

It helped distribute donations of food, clothing and equipment to survivors in the immediate aftermath of the blaze and also set up initiatives to help heal the community’s emotional scars.

Joining William to present the firefighters with their award, This Morning presenters Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby praised their bravery for running towards Grenfell “while everyone else was running away”.

Phillip said the crews had “gone above and beyond the call of duty”, while Holly called them “true, true heroes”.

The firefighters took to the stage to a standing ovation from the audience, who wiped away tears after a moving video replayed the horrors of Grenfell.

London fire chief Dany Cotton said the support from the tower’s residents had helped the crews come to terms with what they had been through.

She added:
It is the one thing that has kept us going.”
Shahin Sadafi, chair of the residents group Grenfell United, said the British public were “truly the Pride of Britain” but warned that victims and survivors had a “long road ahead”.
With Prime Minister Theresa May looking on, Shahin pleaded with the audience: “I ask you today, we need your support for justice.”

William also paid tribute to victims of the Manchester Arena bombing and the medics who worked tirelessly to save them.

In his first appearance at the Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards in association with TSB, the royal presented a Special Recognition Award for the teams in eight hospitals across the city.

Suicide bomber Salman Abedi killed 22 people at the Ariana Grande concert in May.

Praising medics who treated victims, William said: “I think they are all incredible brave. We so grateful to have people like you in this country.
“The courage and the spirit that Manchester showed is a huge example to all of us.”

Earlier, at the start of the ceremony, William sang along with the choir who opened the star-studded ceremony then donned an Aston Villa scarf as youngster Moin Younis, also a fan of the football club, picked up his award for Teenager of Courage.

At a Royal drinks reception before the awards, the prince had chatted with Moin, who suffers from agonising condition Epidermolysis, which causes his skin to blister and bleed with the slightest knock.
The 17-year-old said after meeting the prince: “He was amazing, the fact that he knows such a lot about me. It means that the stuff I do does go out there.

“We were talking about Aston Villa, because we’re both Aston Villa fans, and how they need to improve.
"I thought he was one of the nicest guys ever.”
Moin added: “He looks like a very quiet guy but when you get to meet him he’s just one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet, honestly.
“Him coming here tonight is going to keep me going.”

William also chatted with X Factor judges Nicole Scherzinger and Sharon Osbourne at the reception, and met “Daredevil Dilys”, Dilys Price, a fearless 85-year-old from Cardiff who jumps out of planes to raise money for charity.
